NewsBreak24 may work with advertisers, brands, agencies, organisations and other commercial partners through advertising, sponsored content, branded content and other paid partnerships.
Commercial partnerships help support the operation and growth of independent digital media. At the same time, NewsBreak24 believes readers should be able to distinguish commercial communications from independent editorial journalism.
This policy explains how NewsBreak24 approaches sponsored content, brand partnerships, advertising disclosures and the separation of commercial relationships from independent editorial decision-making.
1. What Is Sponsored Content?
Sponsored content is content for which NewsBreak24 receives, or has agreed to receive, payment, products, services, benefits or other material consideration in connection with its creation, publication or distribution.
Sponsored content may include:
- sponsored articles;
- branded articles or features;
- sponsored social-media posts;
- sponsored Reels or short-form videos;
- sponsored YouTube content;
- branded video content;
- sponsored explainers;
- commercial interviews or features;
- campaign integrations;
- product or service features;
- event partnerships;
- affiliate or performance-based commercial arrangements;
- multi-platform campaigns; and
- other forms of paid or commercially supported content.
The exact format may vary according to the campaign and platform.
2. Clear Disclosure
NewsBreak24 seeks to ensure that paid commercial content is identifiable as such and is not deliberately presented to audiences as independent editorial journalism.
Depending on the nature and platform of the content, appropriate disclosures may include:
Advertisement
Ad
Sponsored
Sponsored Content
Partnership
Brand Partnership
Collaboration
or an appropriate platform-provided disclosure tool.
The disclosure used may vary according to the content format, commercial relationship, applicable standards and platform requirements.
3. Placement of Disclosures
Disclosures should be sufficiently clear and prominent for an ordinary reader or viewer to understand the commercial nature of the content.
For sponsored articles published on NewsBreak24’s website, the commercial disclosure should ordinarily appear prominently near the beginning of the article rather than being hidden at the bottom of the page.
For sponsored content distributed through social media, NewsBreak24 will use appropriate upfront disclosures and platform disclosure tools where required or appropriate.
A disclosure should not intentionally be hidden among hashtags, placed somewhere users are unlikely to see it, or presented in a way designed to obscure the existence of the commercial relationship.
4. Sponsored Articles
Sponsored articles published on NewsBreak24 may be produced:
- by NewsBreak24 in collaboration with an advertiser;
- from information supplied by a commercial partner;
- by or on behalf of an advertiser and subsequently reviewed by NewsBreak24; or
- through another agreed branded-content arrangement.
Where appropriate, sponsored articles may carry a disclosure such as:
Sponsored Content
or
This content has been published as part of a paid partnership.
Sponsored content should not be represented as independent NewsBreak24 reporting where that representation would be misleading.
5. Editorial Independence
A commercial relationship with NewsBreak24 does not provide an advertiser or sponsor with control over NewsBreak24’s unrelated independent journalism.
Payment for advertising, sponsored content or a brand partnership does not guarantee:
- favourable independent editorial coverage;
- suppression of legitimate news reporting;
- alteration of unrelated editorial coverage;
- removal of accurate journalism;
- favourable reviews or editorial conclusions;
- protection from legitimate criticism; or
- influence over NewsBreak24’s independent editorial decisions.
NewsBreak24 reserves the right to report independently on advertisers, sponsors and commercial partners when they are legitimately newsworthy.
6. Advertiser Input Into Sponsored Content
Because sponsored content is created as part of a commercial arrangement, advertisers may have input into matters such as:
- campaign objectives;
- brand information;
- key messages;
- factual product or service information;
- creative direction;
- approved brand assets;
- campaign timing; and
- reasonable revisions to sponsored material.
However, NewsBreak24 reserves the right to reject wording, claims, images, links or other material that it considers misleading, unlawful, inappropriate or inconsistent with applicable standards.
Advertiser involvement in sponsored content does not extend to unrelated independent NewsBreak24 journalism.
7. Accuracy of Advertising Claims
Advertisers and commercial partners are responsible for ensuring that claims supplied to NewsBreak24 concerning their products, services, organisations or campaigns are truthful and capable of appropriate substantiation where required.
NewsBreak24 may request evidence supporting advertising claims before or after publication.
NewsBreak24 may reject, modify, suspend or remove sponsored material containing claims that appear materially misleading, deceptive, unsupported or unlawful.
Publication of sponsored content does not mean NewsBreak24 independently guarantees every claim made by the advertiser.
8. Products, Services and Reviews
Where NewsBreak24 receives payment, a free product, complimentary service, travel, accommodation or another material benefit connected with coverage, the relationship should be disclosed where necessary for audiences to understand the nature of the content.
A commercial arrangement should not be concealed in a manner that causes promotional content to be mistaken for an independent editorial review.
Where NewsBreak24 publishes genuinely independent editorial coverage of a product or service without a material commercial relationship connected to that coverage, it need not be labelled sponsored merely because the company has advertised with NewsBreak24 separately.
9. Social Media Brand Partnerships
NewsBreak24 may publish sponsored or branded content through its official social-media accounts, including platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, YouTube and LinkedIn.
Paid promotional posts will be identified using appropriate disclosures.
Depending on the platform and format, this may include:
- Sponsored
- Advertisement
- Ad
- Partnership
- Collaboration
- platform-provided Paid Partnership labels; or
- other appropriate disclosure mechanisms.
Where platform tools are available, NewsBreak24 may use them in addition to textual disclosure.
10. Video and Audio Sponsorship
Sponsored video or audio content should contain a disclosure appropriate to its format where necessary to make the commercial relationship clear.
For example, a sponsored video may include an on-screen disclosure, spoken disclosure, caption disclosure or applicable platform-provided paid-promotion label.
Where commercial material is integrated into otherwise editorial video content, NewsBreak24 seeks to make the sponsored portion reasonably distinguishable.
11. Affiliate Relationships
NewsBreak24 may use affiliate links or other performance-based commercial arrangements.
Where NewsBreak24 may receive a commission or other benefit as a result of a reader purchasing or taking another action through a link, the commercial relationship should be disclosed where appropriate.
An affiliate relationship should not determine the factual conclusions of independent editorial journalism.
12. Paid and Sponsored Links
Links included as part of paid advertisements, sponsored articles or other compensated arrangements may be technically qualified to identify their commercial nature to search engines.
NewsBreak24 may use attributes such as:
rel="sponsored"
and, where appropriate:
rel="nofollow"
for paid or commercially arranged outbound links.
Advertisers do not acquire the right to require NewsBreak24 to provide unqualified links for the purpose of manipulating search-engine rankings.
NewsBreak24 does not sell editorial authority or search-engine ranking influence as part of a commercial arrangement.
13. Search Engines and News Platforms
NewsBreak24 does not guarantee that sponsored content will:
- rank in Google Search;
- appear in Google News;
- appear in Google Discover;
- be indexed by a search engine;
- achieve a particular search position;
- receive a specific amount of organic traffic; or
- remain visible on any third-party platform.
Sponsored content may be handled differently from independent editorial content by search engines, social platforms and other services.
NewsBreak24 will not intentionally disguise paid content as independent journalism solely to obtain preferential treatment from search engines or news-distribution platforms.
14. Prohibited or Restricted Advertising
NewsBreak24 reserves the right to refuse advertising, sponsorships or commercial partnerships that it considers inappropriate or incompatible with applicable law, advertising standards, platform requirements or NewsBreak24’s standards.
This may include, depending on applicable requirements and circumstances, advertising involving:
- illegal products or services;
- fraudulent schemes;
- materially misleading claims;
- impersonation or deceptive practices;
- unlawful discrimination;
- harmful or dangerous products promoted unlawfully;
- unlawful gambling or betting services;
- prohibited financial schemes;
- unlawful health or medical claims;
- counterfeit products;
- content promoting violence, hatred or illegal activity; or
- other material NewsBreak24 considers unlawful or seriously inappropriate.
NewsBreak24 may apply additional restrictions to sensitive advertising categories.
15. Political Advertising
Political advertising, election-related advertising and paid political communications may be subject to specific legal, regulatory and platform requirements.
NewsBreak24 may accept, restrict or decline political advertising depending on applicable law, platform policies, operational capabilities and editorial considerations.
Any political advertisement accepted by NewsBreak24 should be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial journalism and handled in accordance with applicable requirements.
Payment for political advertising does not provide any political party, candidate or organisation with influence over NewsBreak24’s independent political reporting.
16. Sponsored Content Involving Sensitive Subjects
NewsBreak24 may apply additional scrutiny to commercial content involving subjects such as:
- health and medicine;
- financial products and investments;
- education;
- children;
- gambling or gaming;
- political or electoral matters;
- legal services;
- claims concerning personal safety; or
- other regulated or potentially high-risk subjects.
NewsBreak24 may require additional documentation, disclaimers, substantiation or approvals before accepting such campaigns.
NewsBreak24 may decline a campaign even where the underlying product or service is otherwise lawful.
17. Sponsored Content and NewsBreak24’s Editorial Standards
Sponsored content is commercial material, but NewsBreak24 still seeks to avoid publishing material that is knowingly false, fraudulent, seriously misleading or unlawful.
Commercial content does not receive an exemption from reasonable standards merely because it has been paid for.
Where relevant, NewsBreak24 may apply principles contained in its Editorial Policy, Fact-Checking Policy and other standards when reviewing sponsored material.
18. Corrections to Sponsored Content
If sponsored content contains a material factual error, NewsBreak24 may correct or update the content.
Where the error originated in information supplied by the advertiser, NewsBreak24 may consult the advertiser while assessing the appropriate correction.
NewsBreak24 may add a correction or clarification where appropriate.
A commercial partner does not have the right to require NewsBreak24 to retain information that NewsBreak24 knows to be materially inaccurate.
19. Removal or Modification of Sponsored Content
NewsBreak24 may modify, suspend or remove sponsored content where:
- required by law;
- required by an applicable platform;
- material claims are found to be false or misleading;
- the advertiser materially breaches the commercial agreement;
- intellectual-property or other legal concerns arise;
- continued publication presents a material legal or reputational risk;
- the content violates NewsBreak24’s standards; or
- another compelling reason justifies removal.
The commercial agreement for a campaign may contain additional provisions concerning publication periods, amendments and removal.
20. No Automatic Endorsement
The publication of an advertisement or sponsored partnership does not necessarily mean that NewsBreak24 independently endorses the advertiser, organisation, product, service or every claim associated with it.
Readers should exercise their own judgment when making purchasing, financial, health or other decisions based on commercial communications.
21. Data and Audience Information
NewsBreak24 may provide advertisers with campaign-performance information where available and appropriate.
Any handling of personal information in connection with advertising or commercial enquiries is subject to NewsBreak24’s Privacy Policy and applicable requirements.
NewsBreak24 does not represent that advertisers receive unrestricted access to personally identifiable information about NewsBreak24 readers merely because they advertise with the publication.
22. Campaign Performance
NewsBreak24 does not guarantee specific commercial results unless particular deliverables have expressly been agreed in writing.
Views, impressions, clicks, engagement, traffic, leads, conversions and other performance measures can vary substantially depending on content, audience behaviour, algorithms, platform distribution and other factors.
Where specific guaranteed deliverables form part of a commercial agreement, those obligations will be governed by the applicable campaign agreement.
