NewsBreak24 recognises that artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies can support modern journalism, improve newsroom efficiency and enable new forms of digital storytelling.

At the same time, artificial intelligence can produce inaccurate information, fabricated quotations, misleading images, false citations, biased outputs and other errors.

NewsBreak24 therefore uses, or may use, artificial-intelligence tools as assistive technologies rather than substitutes for editorial responsibility.

This AI Editorial Policy explains how NewsBreak24 approaches the use of artificial intelligence in its journalism, publishing, production and other editorial workflows.

1. Our Core Principle

NewsBreak24 remains responsible for the editorial content it publishes regardless of whether artificial-intelligence tools were involved in its creation or production.

AI-generated output is not automatically considered accurate merely because it was produced by a sophisticated technology.

Where AI assists our editorial process, appropriate human editorial judgment and oversight remain important.

NewsBreak24 does not transfer responsibility for its journalism to an AI system, technology provider or automated tool.

2. How NewsBreak24 May Use AI

NewsBreak24 may use artificial-intelligence and automation tools to assist with tasks including:

Use of AI assistance does not remove the requirement to apply appropriate editorial standards to the resulting content.

3. Human Editorial Oversight

Material produced with substantial AI assistance should be reviewed appropriately before publication.

Depending on the nature of the content, human review may include checking:

  • material facts;
  • names;
  • dates;
  • locations;
  • figures and statistics;
  • quotations;
  • source attribution;
  • context;
  • headlines;
  • photographs and videos;
  • legal or ethical sensitivities; and
  • whether the content accurately reflects the underlying source material.

The level of review may vary depending on the nature, sensitivity and potential impact of the content.

4. AI Is Not a Factual Source

NewsBreak24 does not treat the output of a generative AI system as an authoritative factual source merely because the system provides an answer.

Material factual claims generated by AI should be assessed against appropriate underlying sources where verification is necessary.

Where appropriate, journalists and editors should rely on sources such as:

  • original documents;
  • official records;
  • direct statements;
  • licensed news-agency material;
  • reputable reporting;
  • credible datasets;
  • interviews;
  • authoritative institutions; and
  • other appropriate primary or secondary sources.

AI-generated citations, links, quotations or references should not be assumed to exist or be accurate without appropriate verification.

5. Fabricated Information and Hallucinations

Generative AI systems can produce plausible-sounding information that is incorrect or entirely fabricated.

NewsBreak24 personnel using such systems should remain alert to the possibility of:

  • invented facts;
  • fabricated quotations;
  • non-existent sources;
  • incorrect dates;
  • false statistics;
  • misidentified individuals;
  • incorrect locations;
  • fictional events;
  • misleading summaries; and
  • other unsupported information.

NewsBreak24 does not knowingly publish fabricated information generated by artificial intelligence.

AI tools must not be used to invent quotations and attribute them to real individuals.

Where AI is used to transcribe, translate, summarise or process a quotation, reasonable care should be taken to ensure that the published quotation accurately represents the underlying source.

AI-generated paraphrases should not be placed within quotation marks or otherwise represented as verbatim statements.

7. News Agency and Wire-Service Content

NewsBreak24 may use AI-assisted tools to help process material supplied by licensed news agencies and wire services where permitted by applicable agreements.

Such assistance may include:

  • headline suggestions;

AI must not be used to introduce unsupported facts, quotations, allegations or context into agency material.

Agency content should be handled in accordance with applicable licensing, attribution and contractual requirements.

8. Press Releases and Official Material

AI tools may assist editors in processing press releases, statements, reports and other official material.

However, AI-generated summaries must accurately represent the underlying material and should not introduce claims that are absent from the source.

Where appropriate, claims originating from a company, government body, political party, organisation or other interested party should remain clearly attributed to that source.

9. Breaking News

NewsBreak24 applies particular caution when using AI in breaking-news situations.

Speed does not justify publishing unsupported AI-generated information.

Where information is developing or uncertain, NewsBreak24 should rely on appropriate sources and clearly communicate material uncertainty.

AI should not be used to fill gaps in incomplete reporting by inventing likely events, consequences, reactions or background information.

10. AI-Assisted Research

Artificial intelligence may assist journalists in identifying information, explaining complex subjects, locating potential sources or suggesting avenues for further research.

However, AI-assisted research should be treated as a starting point where verification is required, not automatically as evidence.

Significant factual claims should be traced to appropriate underlying sources before being presented as established fact where the circumstances require verification.

11. AI-Generated or AI-Modified Images

NewsBreak24 may use artificial intelligence to create or modify visual material for illustrative, creative or explanatory purposes.

AI-generated or materially AI-altered imagery must not knowingly be presented as an authentic documentary photograph of a real news event when it is not.

Where an AI-generated or materially altered image could reasonably be mistaken for authentic documentary imagery, NewsBreak24 should provide an appropriate disclosure.

Depending on the circumstances, disclosures may include:

12. Illustrative AI Images

AI-generated illustrations may be used to visually represent subjects for which authentic imagery is unavailable or where an illustration is editorially appropriate.

Such imagery should not materially misrepresent identifiable individuals, locations or events.

When realistic AI imagery depicts a fictional reconstruction or representation of an actual event, it should be clearly presented as illustrative rather than documentary evidence.

13. AI Manipulation of Authentic News Images

NewsBreak24 should exercise particular caution when using AI to modify authentic news photographs.

Routine technical adjustments such as cropping, resizing, exposure correction, noise reduction or other non-deceptive production adjustments may be permissible where they do not materially alter the factual meaning of the image.

AI should not be used to add, remove or materially change people, objects, actions or circumstances in a documentary news image in a way that falsely represents what occurred.

Where material alteration is editorially justified, it should be appropriately identified as altered or illustrative.

14. AI-Generated Video

NewsBreak24 may use AI-assisted or AI-generated video for explainers, visualisations, promotional material, storytelling or other digital formats.

Synthetic video must not knowingly be presented as authentic footage of an actual event where the depicted footage did not occur.

Realistic AI-generated representations of actual people, events or locations should be clearly disclosed where viewers could reasonably mistake them for authentic footage.

15. AI Avatars and Virtual Presenters

NewsBreak24 may use AI-generated presenters, avatars or other virtual presentation technologies for news bulletins, explainers or digital content.

Where a presenter is substantially AI-generated and could reasonably be perceived as a real human news presenter, NewsBreak24 should make the synthetic nature of the presentation reasonably clear to viewers.

An AI presenter does not independently determine the facts or editorial position of NewsBreak24.

Scripts and factual information presented through AI-generated presenters remain subject to NewsBreak24’s editorial standards and human oversight.

16. Synthetic and AI-Generated Voices

NewsBreak24 may use synthetic or AI-generated voices for narration, accessibility, translation, explainers, videos or other content.

Synthetic voices must not be used to deceptively impersonate a real person or falsely create statements that the person never made.

Where the use of a synthetic voice could materially mislead audiences into believing that they are hearing an authentic recording of a real person, appropriate disclosure should be provided.

17. Voice Cloning

A person’s voice should not be cloned or synthetically reproduced in a manner that misleadingly attributes fabricated speech to that individual.

Where NewsBreak24 uses an authorised voice clone of its own presenter, contributor or other consenting person for production purposes, the resulting content must still comply with NewsBreak24’s standards for accuracy and transparency.

Material use should also respect applicable consent, intellectual-property, personality and other legal rights.

18. Deepfakes and Manipulated Media

NewsBreak24 may report on deepfakes, synthetic media and manipulated content where newsworthy.

However, content should not be labelled a “deepfake”, “AI-generated” or manipulated as an established fact without a reasonable evidentiary basis.

Where manipulated media itself is displayed as part of reporting, sufficient context should be provided to reduce the risk that readers or viewers mistake it for authentic material.

AI-assisted translation may be used where appropriate.

Translated content should preserve the substantive meaning of the original material.

Particular care should be taken with:

  • direct quotations;
  • legal terminology;
  • political statements;
  • technical terminology;
  • culturally sensitive language; and
  • words whose meaning depends heavily on context.

Where exact wording is important, the original material should be consulted where reasonably possible.

20. Headlines, SEO and Social Media

AI tools may assist with:

  • headlines;
  • SEO titles;
  • meta descriptions;
  • keywords;
  • summaries;
  • captions;
  • hashtags; and
  • social-media copy.

However, AI-generated promotional or discovery-oriented text remains subject to NewsBreak24’s editorial standards.

AI should not be used to create materially misleading, sensationalised or deceptive headlines merely to increase clicks, views or engagement.

Headlines should accurately reflect the underlying content.

21. Automated Publishing

NewsBreak24 may use automation to assist its publishing and distribution workflows.

Where content is automatically processed, scheduled or distributed, NewsBreak24 remains responsible for applying appropriate safeguards and editorial standards.

High-risk or sensitive editorial decisions should not be delegated solely to an automated system without appropriate human oversight.

AI-generated output concerning such subjects should not substitute for appropriate sourcing and editorial judgment.

23. Bias and Fairness

AI systems can reproduce biases present in training data, prompts, source material or system design.

NewsBreak24 personnel should therefore not assume that AI-generated descriptions, classifications or conclusions are neutral.

Where relevant, AI-assisted content should be reviewed for unfair stereotyping, discriminatory assumptions, unsupported characterisations or other material distortions.

NewsBreak24’s standards concerning fairness, discrimination and sensitive reporting continue to apply regardless of whether AI is used.

24. Privacy and Confidential Information

NewsBreak24 should exercise appropriate care before entering confidential, unpublished, personal or sensitive information into third-party AI systems.

Journalists and editors should consider whether using a particular AI service could expose:

  • confidential sources;
  • unpublished investigations;
  • private personal information;
  • commercially confidential material;
  • embargoed information;
  • login credentials;

  • legally protected material.

Confidential source information should not be unnecessarily disclosed to third-party AI systems.

25. Copyright and Intellectual Property

Use of AI tools does not remove NewsBreak24’s responsibility to respect applicable copyright, licensing, attribution and intellectual-property requirements.

AI should not knowingly be used to circumvent licensing restrictions or to present protected third-party material as original NewsBreak24 work where doing so would infringe applicable rights.

Material supplied under licences or commercial agreements should be used in accordance with those arrangements.

26. Disclosure of AI Use

NewsBreak24 does not necessarily disclose every routine or minor use of AI in its internal editorial workflow.

For example, disclosure would ordinarily not be required merely because AI assisted with:

  • spelling or grammar;
  • headline suggestions;
  • formatting;
  • transcription;
  • metadata;
  • internal research organisation; or
  • other routine production assistance

where the final content has been appropriately reviewed and the AI involvement is not materially relevant to the reader’s understanding of the content.

However, disclosure should be considered where AI has played a material role in creating content that audiences could reasonably mistake for authentic human-generated or documentary material.

This is particularly relevant to realistic synthetic:

  • images;
  • video;
  • audio;
  • voices;
  • presenters;
  • reconstructions; or
  • other media.

The purpose of disclosure is meaningful transparency, not labelling every use of ordinary newsroom technology.

27. Human By-lines and AI

An AI system should not be presented as a human journalist.

Where a human journalist or editor takes editorial responsibility for substantially AI-assisted content, the by-line should reflect the actual responsible person or the appropriate NewsBreak24 editorial attribution according to newsroom practice.

NewsBreak24 may develop additional labelling conventions for substantially automated or AI-generated formats where appropriate.

28. Corrections to AI-Assisted Content

AI-assisted content is subject to the same correction standards as other NewsBreak24 journalism.

If AI contributes to a material factual error, the fact that the error originated from an AI tool does not reduce NewsBreak24’s responsibility to address it.

Material errors should be corrected in accordance with our Corrections Policy.
