2. What Is a Formal Grievance?
A formal grievance may concern content published by NewsBreak24 in relation to applicable journalistic standards or the Code of Ethics applicable to publishers of news and current-affairs content.
A grievance may include concerns relating to matters such as:
- a material factual inaccuracy;
- materially misleading presentation or context;
- serious concerns regarding fairness or journalistic conduct;
- privacy concerns arising from published editorial content;
- inappropriate identification of a protected or vulnerable person;
- content alleged to violate applicable journalistic standards;
- serious concerns relating to photographs, videos or other editorial material;
- a failure to appropriately distinguish certain commercial content from editorial content; or
- another matter concerning NewsBreak24’s obligations as a publisher of news and current-affairs content.
NewsBreak24 will assess each grievance on its individual facts and applicable editorial and legal standards.
3. Corrections vs Formal Grievances
Not every correction request needs to be submitted as a formal grievance.
If you simply believe that an article contains a factual error, spelling error, incorrect figure, outdated information or other matter that may be addressed through our normal editorial process, please contact:
For information about how NewsBreak24 handles factual corrections, clarifications and updates, please refer to our Corrections Policy.
If your concern involves a more serious alleged breach of editorial standards or you wish to use NewsBreak24’s formal grievance-redressal mechanism, please contact:
4. How to Submit a Grievance
Formal grievances should preferably be submitted by email to:
To enable NewsBreak24 to properly identify and review your grievance, please include, where applicable:
- your full name;
- your email address and contact information;
- the URL of the NewsBreak24 article, video or other content concerned;
- the headline or title of the content;
- the date of publication, if known;
- a clear explanation of your grievance;
- identification of the specific statement, image, video or other material concerned;
- the correction, clarification or other action you are requesting;
- relevant supporting documents or evidence, where available; and
- if you are acting on behalf of another person or organisation, information establishing your authority to do so where appropriate.
Please write “Formal Grievance” in the email subject line.
Providing complete information may help us review your grievance efficiently.
5. Acknowledgement of Grievances
NewsBreak24 will generate and issue an acknowledgement of a formal grievance within 24 hours of it being furnished through the designated grievance mechanism.
The acknowledgement confirms receipt of the grievance and does not constitute acceptance of the complainant’s claims.
NewsBreak24 may request additional information where reasonably necessary to understand or assess a grievance.
6. Review and Decision
The Grievance Officer will review the grievance and may consult relevant editors, journalists, contributors, records, source material, documents or other information necessary to assess the complaint.
Depending on the circumstances, NewsBreak24 may also seek information or a response from the complainant or other relevant persons.
NewsBreak24 will endeavour to address the grievance and communicate its decision to the complainant within 15 days of registration of the grievance, in accordance with applicable requirements.
7. Possible Outcomes
Depending on the circumstances and merits of the grievance, NewsBreak24 may take action including:
- determining that no correction or further action is required;
- correcting a material factual error;
- adding a clarification;
- updating information;
- correcting a headline, caption, photograph or other presentation element;
- adding an editor’s note or correction note;
- providing additional context;
- anonymising or modifying certain information where justified;
- removing material where legally or editorially necessary; or
- taking another action considered appropriate in the circumstances.
The submission of a grievance does not automatically require NewsBreak24 to alter or remove published journalism.
Editorial decisions will be made having regard to accuracy, fairness, public interest, applicable journalistic standards and applicable law.
8. Content Removal Requests
NewsBreak24 generally considers published journalism part of the public record.
Content will therefore not ordinarily be removed solely because a person or organisation disagrees with the coverage, considers it unfavourable or subsequently finds accurate reporting inconvenient.
Removal, anonymisation, de-indexing or substantial modification may nevertheless be considered where justified by circumstances including:
- a valid legal requirement or court order;
- a material factual or editorial failure;
- significant privacy or safety concerns;
- a valid copyright or intellectual-property issue;
- legal restrictions on publication;
- exceptional ethical considerations; or
- another compelling editorial or legal reason.
Each request will be assessed individually.
9. Right of Reply
Where a grievance concerns significant allegations about an identifiable individual or organisation, NewsBreak24 may consider whether an appropriate response, clarification or right of reply should be reflected in the relevant coverage.
A right of reply does not automatically entitle a complainant to dictate wording, demand removal of accurate reporting or exercise editorial control over NewsBreak24.
Any response incorporated into coverage remains subject to editorial judgment, relevance and applicable law.
10. Escalation of a Grievance
The grievance-redressal framework applicable to digital news publishers provides for a multi-level self-regulatory mechanism.
Level I – Publisher:
NewsBreak24 considers grievances through its designated Grievance Officer.
Level II – Self-Regulating Body:
Where applicable under the governing framework, unresolved grievances or appeals may proceed to the self-regulating body of which the publisher is a member.
Level III – Oversight Mechanism:
Further escalation may be available through the applicable oversight mechanism of the Central Government in accordance with the prevailing rules.
Where a complainant is dissatisfied with NewsBreak24’s Level I decision, applicable escalation rights and procedures will be governed by the prevailing legal and regulatory framework.
11. Appeals
Under the applicable grievance framework, a complainant who is dissatisfied with a publisher’s decision may, where applicable, prefer an appeal to the relevant self-regulating body within the period prescribed under the prevailing rules.
Similarly, where NewsBreak24 does not communicate its decision within the prescribed period, the grievance may be escalated in accordance with the applicable regulatory framework.
NewsBreak24 will cooperate with applicable grievance and oversight mechanisms as required by law.
12. Copyright and Intellectual Property Complaints
Copyright complaints and content-takedown requests concerning photographs, videos, articles or other protected material should ordinarily be sent to:
Please include:
- the URL containing the disputed material;
- identification of the copyrighted work;

Where a copyright complaint also constitutes a formal grievance under the applicable grievance mechanism, NewsBreak24 may process or refer it accordingly.
13. Privacy-Related Requests
Requests concerning personal data collected through NewsBreak24’s website, forms or other services should ordinarily be addressed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Privacy Contact: editor@newsbreak24.com
A complaint concerning the editorial publication of personal information, however, may also constitute an editorial grievance and may be submitted through the formal grievance mechanism where appropriate.
14. Abuse of the Grievance Mechanism
NewsBreak24 welcomes genuine complaints and criticism.
However, the grievance mechanism should not be used to knowingly submit:
- false or fraudulent complaints;

NewsBreak24 may take reasonable measures to manage abusive or manifestly improper use of the grievance mechanism, subject to applicable law.
15. Confidentiality and Personal Information
Information submitted as part of a grievance may be processed for the purpose of reviewing, investigating, documenting and responding to the grievance.
Information may also be disclosed where reasonably necessary to relevant personnel, professional advisers, applicable self-regulatory bodies, competent authorities or other persons where required or permitted by law.
Personal information will otherwise be handled in accordance with NewsBreak24’s Privacy Policy and applicable law.
