AAP’s Raghav Chadha Spends a Day as Blinkit Delivery Partner to Highlight Gig Workers’ Plight

The AAP leader dressed in Blinkit’s yellow uniform and joined a delivery agent on his route, calling attention to working conditions in India’s gig economy.

In a symbolic yet impactful move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha took to the streets on Monday in Delhi, joining a Blinkit delivery agent for a day to experience the real-life challenges of gig workers. Donning the company’s trademark yellow T-shirt and helmet, Chadha rode pillion on a delivery bike, completing several customer orders in a bid to better understand the hardships faced by gig workers across India.

A Day in the Life of a Gig Worker

The short video, shared by Chadha on social media platforms, captured his immersive journey with a Blinkit delivery partner. His ride was part of a larger campaign to raise awareness about the working conditions of gig economy workers and to advocate for meaningful policy reforms.

“Away from boardrooms, at the grassroots. I lived their day,” Chadha captioned the video, which shows him navigating busy streets, interacting with customers, and shadowing the partner throughout his shift.

Push for Reform and Accountability

Raghav Chadha has consistently raised concerns about the welfare of gig workers, both inside and outside Parliament. Recently, he hosted a Blinkit delivery agent for a discussion at his home, amplifying workers’ voices and underlining the need for systemic changes.

The MP has criticized 10-minute delivery models, describing them as exploitative and unsafe. He specifically called out Blinkit and Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, who had labelled striking delivery workers as “miscreants.” Chadha rebuked this statement, asserting:

“Workers asking for fair pay are not criminals. To call them miscreants is both insulting and dangerous.”

He further pledged to continue his advocacy:

“This is a fight I will see through — in Parliament, on the streets, and online — until gig workers get the dignity, pay, and protections they rightfully deserve.”

Backdrop: Worker Strikes and Platform Response

The protest comes in the wake of recent strikes by Blinkit and Zomato delivery agents demanding better pay, insurance, and safety measures. Despite these calls, the companies claimed operations were unaffected during peak times like New Year’s Eve.

Deepinder Goyal had earlier posted that strong local law enforcement support allowed deliveries to proceed smoothly, a move Chadha described as tone-deaf to the grievances of the workforce.

What’s Next for Gig Workers in India?

Chadha’s initiative adds pressure on policymakers and platform operators to address gig workers’ demands. From social security to fair wages and job security, the debate around labour rights in the app-based economy is growing louder.

As Chadha continues to use his platform to advocate for those powering India’s booming quick-commerce sector, this gesture might well be the push the conversation needed.
